Bringing Opportunities for the
People of West Virginia
Providing Program Grants and Scholarships
Providing and Enhancing Opportunities For Programs and Projects
Freshwater Family Foundation, or FFF for short, is an organization in Spencer, West Virginia, that offers scholarships and grants. The FFF was formed with the goal of providing new opportunities for the people of Roane and Calhoun counties.
Our Primary Objectives
The FFF’s aim is to help the communities around us shine and be a testament to West Virginians’ grit and determination.
The funding to support these objectives is the result of the hard work of many blue-collar workers throughout the decades. In order to pay it forward, we’ve dedicated ourselves to providing the same opportunities for those who wish to follow the same path.
- Provide scholarship opportunities to applicants wanting to attend a vocational or technical school.
- Provide grants to applicants to use funds for community beautification and improvement.
- Provide financial support to allow youth to travel and experience the arts.
- Youth leadership development programs
- Self-improvement/self-sustaining initiatives geared toward adults
Vocational and Technical School Scholarships
FFF provides scholarships to qualified applicants to attend vocational or technical schools to learn skilled labor and continue to reside in the area.
Community Beautification and Improvement Grants
The FFF plans to provide grants to qualified applicants so they can engage in beautification and community improvement projects. Such projects would include
- Demolition and remediation of blighted structures
- Painting
- New signage
- Trash cleanup
- Weed removal
- Crack repairs
- Development of green and sitting areas
The Freshwater Family Foundation intends to provide grants only to applicants that have contributed to the cost of the project through their own fundraising activities.
Experiencing the Arts
One of the FFF’s plans involves the provision of funds to support field trips for area youth to travel and attend a musical or cultural performance or visit a museum or science center.
The trips would include exciting activities such as attending a WV Symphony performance, a Broadway show at the Clay Center in Charleston, or visiting out-of-state museums such as CoSi in Columbus or Carnegie Museums in Pittsburgh.
A portion of travel, dining, and event and venue expenses would be paid for by the FFF. FFF trustees will also recommend and sponsor these trips and coordinate with the local Boards of Education to accomplish this goal.
We intend to only provide grants to applicants that have contributed to the cost of the trip via their own fundraising activities.
Youth Leadership and Development Programs
The FFF plans to provide financial and logistical support for youth leadership development programs. These programs would include guest speakers that are leaders in their respective fields or experts in motivating and guiding youth to understand and exhibit leadership skills at school or in the community.
They may also include practical exercises in which student led-projects are conducted.
Self-Improvement and Self-Sustaining Initiatives for Adults
FFF plans to establish initiatives within the community to foster self-improvement and sustainability for adults. FFF intends to provide support for local parks or walking trails that help promote getting outdoors and engaging in physical activity.
Self-improvement initiatives would include healthy lifestyles to encourage physical and mental exercise, reading, and social interaction skills.
Self-sustaining programs may include training in backyard gardening, food preservation, beekeeping, hunting/fishing, and keeping livestock or foraging skills.
